After months of preparation and an entire day full of costuming, plays, nerves, and awards, the Permian One Act Play (OAP) group advances to bi-district, on April 9, for the first time in ten years.

“It’s really an honor. This group has worked so hard, and we’re all thrilled that we’ve had the opportunity to advance,” Senior Ashley King said. “Hopefully we’ll be able to keep going.”

With only a short time to prep, they have had lengthy rehearsals to tweak certain parts of their play as recommended by the judge, Dr. Cindy SoRelle.

Senior Alex Quezada, Kensie Dickerson, Allison Grey, and Junior Mariana Vizcarro. Each of these got individual metals along with the metal for advancing as a company.

“It’s been intensive, working on the areas we were critiqued on when we went to competition in Snyder,” Senior Alex Quezada said. “It’s been a short, very hard week, but the group handles well and we’re ready to compete.”

The OAP competition will take up the entire day. King said she was nervous yet confident about their upcoming performance.

“Any time you put on a play, there’s a bit of nerves,” King said. “You’re showing a play that you’ve spent hours and hours on, a play that’s become a part of you, to judges whose job it is to criticize and pick that play, and you, apart. But I have faith in my fellow actors and myself. I know we’ll do good.”

The competition will be held at Clyde High School in Clyde, Texas. If these thespians do advance, they will next compete in the Area competition next week in Snyder.
