This past weekend the UIL Academic team competes in the District meet in San Angelo. Overall the team placed 2nd and the competitors who placed 1-3 will be heading to regionals. The teams who placed first will also advance to regionals and those individuals who placed 4th and 5th will be alternates.

“I think we did an amazing job. Last year we didn’t have as many people going for regionals as this year,” Senior Ezequiel Paz said.

The Calculator Applications, Mathematics and Journalism teams all took 1st place. The teams that took 2nd place are the Current Issue, Science team and the Spelling and Vocabulary teams. The Computer Science team ended up taking 3rd place.

“It was a fun year. The people in there are great and the coaches did an amazing job at helping us get our acts together this year,” Junior Cassandra Gonzalez said.

Al Nhi Thi Doan took 2^nd place in Calculator Applications, 1^st place in Mathematics and 4^th in Number Sense,

Cassandra Gonzales took 6^th place in Informative Speaking,

Jordan Groening took 2^nd place in News Writing,

Dominique Hernandez took 4^th place in Prose Interpretation,

Savanah Hernandez took 4^th place in Poetry Interpretation,

Camille Kenner took 3^rd place in Feature Writing,

Devon Mailey took 5^th place in Computer Science,

Kade McNutt took 4^th place in Feature Writing, 5^th in Headline Writing and 5^th in News Writing,

Anna Muy took 4^th place in Calculator Applications,

Ezequiel Paz took 6^th place in Mathematics,

Aubrianna Saxton took 1^st place in Science and 1^st in Biology,

Haley Smith took 5^th place in Editorial Writing,

Heather Smith took 2^nd place in Spelling and Vocabulary,

Katie Starnes took 5^th place in Calculator Applications,

Mariana Veloso took 2^nd place in Feature Writing and 4^th in News Writing,

Those that advanced to the Regional competition will compete April 24 and 25.
