Bad Weather Day Policy

“The conditions of the roads in all parts of the town is the single biggest factor in the decision to cancel school or not,” ECISD’s canceling school policy states.

For school to be cancelled the weather will be tracked throughout the night and also before 4:00 a.m. by the Transportation Department (TD) of ECISD.

“There are preset roads they will drive down to see if  the buses can drive in the weather,” Principal James Ramage said.

Transporting some 8,000 students to and from school each day starting as early as 5:00 a.m. for elementary schools, the ECISD policy states that after the buses start their route it is hard to return the students if school were to be cancelled further on during the day.

“I know they release whether or not school will be cancelled on social media,” Ramage said.

Announcements of early release closures can be found on ECISD’s Twitter and Facebook. Also, there will be an email made to local weather stations and a ParentLink message to parents if school were to be cancelled.

“We also track weather forecasts throughout the day in case the afternoon dismissal needs to be adjusted,” the policy states.

ECISD officials consult with Midland ISD on their statuses as well as monitoring the National Weather Service to help in determining the district’s status.
