Community donates coats for less fortunate kids this winter

A competition was held among the schools in the district to see who could collect the most coats for this year’s Coats for Kids drive.

The class that brought in the most coat donations would receive free Taco Villa coupons.

United Way partnered with All American Chevrolet, Frost Bank, the Salvation Army, and CBS7 for this year’s coat drive.

This was a huge priority for United Way to make sure that every child in Odessa has a coat to stay warm this winter.

“I like getting the opportunity to help children,” Sophomore Robert Rhoudes said. “I brought a coat to school when I was in 6th grade and I had the chance to give it to a kid. It was a cool experience.”

Each student bringing a jacket will ensure the health of a child, and have the ability to return to school with strong self-esteem.
